La Femis

About La Femis – A state-funded institution under the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the CNC, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research located in Paris, France.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and La Fémis have annually joined together to offer a Summer program aimed at foreign film and television students, along with young film industry professionals, who wish to develop their practical and theoretical knowledge of documentary filmmaking in France.

The summer university program runs for 9 weeks of intensive classes 5 days per week. It takes a maximum of 15 students from different countries: North Africa, Africa, Chili, Russia, India, Iran, Afghanistan, Egypt…

Program:

The students follow 3 weeks of classes, including many film screenings. These classes are given by professionals teaching at La Fémis on the following themes: filming reality, writing, screenplay structure, directing and documentary shooting, script development, distribution of foreign films in France, French funding for foreign co-productions, and the economic and institutional framework of French cinema.

The second part of the program is dedicated to the practical side of making a documentary.

Selection:

The participants are selected jointly by the cultural services of the French embassies, the Director of Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and representatives of La Fémis on applications and a film directed by the applicants.

About the scholarship:

La Femis – Embassy of France Scholarship offers a Summer Residency Programme between July and September. This scholarship is offered for 2 months only to an Indian student.

During the scholarship period, the awardee is provided with a monthly stipend of 910 euros (approximately), along with a return ticket to France, tuition fee, overseas medical insurance coverage and assistance to find accommodation. The awardee is also provided with a student visa fee waiver.

ENS Louis-Lumière : Summer School in Radio Documentary

About ENS Louis-Lumière

Founded in 1926, the École Nationale Supérieure Louis-Lumière provides high-level training in image and sound professions and is an international leader in the fundamentals of these fields. It is the only institution in France to deliver excellent training to become a cinematographer, sound engineer or photographer.

The school also participates in applied research projects and offers continuing education (short courses). It also runs a summer university program for 5 weeks between July and August.

Program:

During the 7 weeks of intensive training, the candidates dive into the radio ecosystem in France, a pioneer in the radio documentary genre. They get to learn the fundamentals of writing and recording a radio documentary, supervised by a documentary maker/soundscape artist and a sound engineer.  They also learn about different sound-writing processes, interviewing techniques, capturing atmospheres, soundscape, stereophonic sound recording and audio editing.

Selection:

The participants are selected by a commission set up by ENS Louis Lumiere and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.

About the scholarship:

The ENS Louis-Lumière – Embassy of France Scholarship offers a summer school programme during July – August.

During the scholarship period, the awardee(s) are provided with a monthly stipend, overseas medical insurance coverage and assistance to find accommodation. They are also provided with a student visa fee waiver.
