France Excellence Charpak Master Scholarship
CHARPAK MASTER'S SCHOLARSHIP
ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is designed for one to two years of studies in France at the Master’s degree level for all streams and fields of study.
BENEFITS
The awardees receive the status of French government scholarship holders (Boursier du Government Français) entitling them to following benefits:
- Monthly living allowance of 860 euros
- Exemption of visa (if applying from India) and Campus France procedure fees
- Student social security and additional health insurance (mutuelle)
- Assistance in finding affordable student accommodation through Campus France in France (priority access to CROUS residencies, subject to availability)
- Meal discount at university restaurants with meals at €1
- Access to social and cultural activities organized by Campus France
The scholarship does not cover -
- Travel expenses from India to France or within France
- Any other expenses related to awardee’s stay in France
Note : French government scholarship holders enrolled in programs leading to a national diploma at French public higher education institutions may be exempt from paying differentiated enrollment fees. It is the awardee's responsibility to check with the institution they are enrolled in for their policies regarding exemption.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible, an applicant must:
• be an Indian citizen or hold an OCI card
• be 30 years old or younger at the time of application
• be currently enrolled or have completed studies at an Indian institution of higher education. Applicants with a degree from a foreign institution are eligible, but preference will be given to those who have completed their education from an Indian institution.
• ensure that the course takes place in France. If part of the course (one semester or more) takes place in another country, the scholarship will not cover that period
• knowledge of French is an asset, but not mandatory to apply for the scholarship
• the scholarship is available for full-time master’s degree programs. Students participating in semester exchange programmes, internships or research projects are not eligible to apply
• students already pursuing a master’s in France can apply for funding for the second year
• have applied for admission to a French institution prior to applying for the scholarship. For admission procedure, please contact your nearest Campus France office in India or refer to the website of the institution of your choice.
An applicant is not eligible, if he/she -
• is a PhD student or intends to complete his/her master’s thesis, training program, or research project in France.
• has previously been awarded the Charpak Master scholarship.
ONLINE APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The students must submit their application on the online scholarship portal http://ifi.scholarship.ifindia.in/ along with the scans of following documents:

Passport size photograph (please make sure that the photograph uploaded is formal)

Copy of the first page of your passport (with photo and expiry date). If you will be getting your passport after the deadline, please attach proof of your passport application.

Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages).

Copy of your admission/acceptance letter from the French higher education institution.

Copy of mark sheets and degree of Higher Secondary School (XII), Bachelor's and Master's degrees (including those of completed semesters of the ongoing degree)

French language certificate, if any (DELF /DALF)

Document of employment / internship record, if applicable

Letter(s) of recommendation from the current Indian university/employer or the institution last attended. The letter(s) of recommendation should be submitted as scanned copies of the original typed and signed paper letters and should preferably be with reference to the scholarship. They have to include the signature and the contact details of the referee, and (if possible) should be on headed paper of the institution and bear a stamp of the institution
NOTE:
1. If you have not received the acceptance letter from the French institution before the deadline, you can attach an email correspondence to show that you are in the process of getting the letter or will get it after the scholarship deadline.
2. If you are submitting applications to two or more universities, be sure to fill out the scholarship application form with information about your top choice.
There should only be one online application per applicant. The submission of multiple online applications will result in disqualification.
3. All the above documents must be in pdf or jpeg format (word, rtf, odt, txt, msg documents, zip folders, screenshots or scans of social media are NOT acceptable). Applications submitted without required documents, or incorrect documents, will be rejected.
The French Embassy is not obliged to respond to candidates whose applications are incomplete or not considered for the scholarship award.
EVALUATION AND SELECTION PROCEDURE
Applications received will be checked to ensure they meet the general eligibility criteria such as academic requirements, age limit, and required documents.
Round 1 - Complete applications will be evaluated by the selection committee on basis of academic excellence, consistency and the quality of the statement of purpose and the overall profile of the applicant. There is no minimum CGPA or percentage required for the scholarship.
Round 2 - Shortlisted candidates will be called for an Online Interview between 7 April and 25 April 2025. Applicants should ensure they are available during this period, as the interviews will not be rescheduled for another date.
A plagiarism check will be conducted on the Statement of Purpose (SOP) included at the end of the scholarship application form. The use of AI tools is discouraged, and any application found with significant AI-generated content will be disqualified.
CANCELLATION OR DISCONTINUATION OF THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED
The Embassy of France in India holds the right to revoke or discontinue the scholarship awarded under following circumstances
- awardee has been granted another French government scholarship, Erasmus scholarship or a scholarship offered from the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie
- awardee signs an apprenticeship or a professional training contract
- the duration of internship that is not mandatory as part of the course
- awardee decides to take a gap year or an academic exchange or any duration abroad, in same or different institution
- awardee is not granted a visa for the selected course
TIMELINE
- Opening of the call for applications: 18 November 2024
- Deadline for the reception of applications : 28 February 2025 (23:59 IST)
- Publication of results: End of April or beginning of May 2025
Applicants will be notified via email when the results have been published.
